Setting up Phase Essential with djay Pro + most common issues

Phase Essential works with djay Pro in three ways: HID mode over USB on Mac and Windows, DVS mode over RCA on Mac and Windows, or DVS mode on iPhone and iPad. This guide covers the setup for all three, and how to fix the most common issues.

What you need

• Phase Essential up to date with Firmware 9
• djay Pro (latest version) with a PRO subscription
• For DVS mode: RCA cables (included with Phase Essential) and a mixer or audio interface with LINE inputs
• For DVS mode on iPhone or iPad: a DVS mixer or controller and an adapter 
• A USB connection to your computer for the Phase Receiver, directly or via a USB hub

How to set up Phase Essential with djay Pro in HID mode (Mac and Windows)

1. Plug the Phase Receiver into your computer via USB.
2. Open djay Pro and set each deck to WIR mode.
3. Place the Remotes on your turntable platters and let them calibrate.

How to set up Phase Essential with djay Pro in DVS mode (Mac and Windows)

1. In Phase Manager's Setup tab, set the DVS signal to Custom 1000Hz. 
2. Power the Phase Receiver via USB.
3. Connect the RCA cables from the Phase Receiver to the LINE inputs of your mixer or through an external soundcard. Set the input selector to LINE (not PHONO).
4. Open djay Pro and set each deck to REL mode.
5. Place the Remotes on your turntable platters and let them calibrate.

How to set up Phase Essential with djay Pro on iPhone and iPad

1. On a computer, open Phase Manager's Setup tab and set the DVS signal to Custom 1000Hz. One-time step, saved on the Receiver.
2. Power the Phase Receiver via USB.
3. Connect your mixer to your iPhone or iPad via the appropriate adapter : Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, or USB-C hub for iPad Pro / iPad Air.
4. Connect the RCA cables from the Phase Receiver to the LINE inputs of your mixer. Set the input selector to LINE (not PHONO).
5. Open djay Pro and set each deck to REL mode.
6. Place the Remotes on your turntable platters and let them calibrate.

Common Setup Issues - HID

WIR mode is not available, or Phase is not detected in djay Pro

• Check that Phase Essential is on firmware v9
• Try a different USB cable or port directly on your computer
• Restart djay Pro with the Receiver already plugged in

The Remotes don't control the decks
djay Pro requires microphone access to use HID mode on Mac. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and enable djay Pro.

Calibration does not finish, or tracking feels imprecise
Keep the Remote completely still on a flat surface until the LED turns solid. For tighter accuracy, run a Manual Calibration from Phase Manager (Settings > Calibration) with the Remote spinning at 0% pitch.

Common Setup Issues - DVS

No signal, or djay Pro does not respond to turntable motion

• Check the mixer's input selector is set to LINE, not PHONO
• Check the DVS signal in Phase Manager is set to Custom 1000Hz
• Check that the decks in djay Pro are in REL mode

djay Pro cannot access audio on iPhone or iPad
Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and enable djay Pro. This is required for DVS to work on mobile.
