Phase Essential works with Serato DJ Pro in two ways: HID mode over USB, or DVS mode over RCA. Both modes require a Serato-supported DVS-enabled mixer, controller, or interface connected to your computer. This guide covers the setup for both, and how to fix the most common issues.
What you need
- Phase Essential up to date with Firmware 9
- Serato DJ Pro 2.5 or later
- A Serato-supported DVS-enabled mixer, controller, or interface, connected to your computer. This is required in both HID and DVS mode.
- A USB connection to your computer for the Phase Receiver, directly or via a USB hub
How to set up Phase Essential with Serato DJ Pro in HID (USB cable)
Full instructions and video tutorial available here.
- Connect your DVS mixer, controller, or interface to your computer.
- Plug the Phase Receiver via USB.
- In Serato DJ Pro, set the deck control mode to "WIR."
- Place the Remotes on your turntable platters and let them calibrate.

How to set up Phase Essential with Serato DJ Pro in DVS (RCA cables)
Full instructions and video tutorial available here.
- Connect your Phase to a power source via USB.
- Plug the Receiver into your mixer's Line inputs via RCA.
- In Phase Manager's Setup tab, set the DVS signal to Serato DJ Pro.
- In Serato DJ Pro, enable DVS control for your decks.
- Place the Remotes on your records and let them calibrate.

Common Setup Issues - HID
Serato doesn't detect Phase, or WIR mode isn't available
- Check that a DVS-enabled mixer, controller, or interface is connected and powered on
- Check that Phase Essential is on firmware v9
- Check that you are running Serato DJ Pro 2.5 or later
- Try a different USB cable or port for the Phase Receiver
Calibration doesn't finish, or tracking feels imprecise
Keep the Remote completely still on a flat surface until the LED turns solid. For tighter accuracy, run a Manual Calibration from Phase Manager (Settings > Calibration) with the Remote spinning at 0% pitch.
The Remotes don't control the decks
Serato shows Phase as connected, but macOS may block Phase in HID mode. See this guide to fix it.
Phase keeps disconnecting during a set
One deck stops responding, or Serato switches back to INT mode on its own, often during a scratch or a spinback. See this guide for the causes and fixes.
Common Setup Issues - DVS
No signal, or the scope shows a dot or a straight line
- Check the mixer's input selector is set to LINE, not PHONO
- Check the DVS signal in Phase Manager is set to Serato DJ Pro
- Check DVS control is enabled for the deck in Serato
See this guide for the full walkthrough.
The circle is visible but outside the scope view
Move the scope zoom slider all the way to the left in Serato DJ Pro.
A small regular pulse appears on the scope
This is normal in DVS mode with Serato DJ Pro. A small portion of the tracking bar turns grey at the same frequency. It does not affect signal quality or tracking accuracy.
Wrong DVS signal selected in Phase Manager
In Phase Manager's Setup tab, the DVS signal must be set to Serato DJ Pro.
